I have found many interesting facts on animal testing to support my argument againist it. Below is just some of many interesting facts I came across.
1) A scientist said that there is no actual figure, but he thinks roughly 10 millio
n animals are used in toxicity testing each year, mainly mice, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and then lesser numbers of dogs, monkeys and other species. Roughly 10 million animals are used?? that is a very large number of animals going through hell for us to have "safe" make up and cleaning products!.2) It is unethical- animals are gassed, poisoned, given diseases, crowded, beaten, starved, injured and so forth in labs, often for reasons of mere interest. Animals are often taken from their wild habitats and forced into small cages where they will spend their lives being tested on until they are killed. Which I think is horrible because they are being taken out of their habitats and they have no voice to stand up for themselves so we who are against animal testing need to speak up and speak for these animals.
3) Tests of cosmetic products on rabbits and mice will soon be banned after European scientists announced that most experiments can now be carried out using non-animal alternatives.
The switch will spare almost 20,000 rabbits a year and 240,000 mice from a life of misery in the laboratory. Scientists say the new tests will actually provide a more reliable way of checking the safety of chemicals in everyday products such as makeup and washing-up liquid.
4) STATISTICS
There are approximately 56 to 100 million cats and 54 million dogs in the US.
It is estimated that every hour 2,000 cats and 3,500 dogs are born.
Between 10.1 and 16. 7 million dogs and cats are put to death in pounds and shelters annually.
Approximately 17-22 million animals are used in research each year.
Approximately 5 billion are consumed for food annually.
Approximately 1.1% of dogs and cats from pounds and shelters, that would otherwise be
euthanized, are used in research.
Fewer than one dog or cat is used for research for every 50 destroyed by animal pounds.
Rats, mice and other rodents make up 85-90% of all research animals.
Only 1 to 1.5% of research animals are dogs and cats.
There has been a 40% decrease in the numbers of animals used in biomedical research and
testing in the US since 1968
Approximately:
61% of animals used suffer no pain
31% have pain relieved with anesthesia
6% experience pain, as alleviation would compromise the validity of the data. Much of this work is directed at an understanding of pain. All above is
(statistics,animal testing,1998-2005)
These statistics pretty much sum it all up.
COMPANIES THAT TEST THIER PRODUCTS ON ANIMALS.......
Animal testing is a cruel way for us humans to have the products that WE use tested on animals to make sure that we don't react to the chemicals used in the products. This link below is a site that tells you what companies are still performing cruel testing.. www.thevegetariansite.com/ethics_test.htm
So when you are next out shopping maybe think of this lists and not buy the brands that still test on animals.

Hey I totally agree with your view on the digusting nature of animal testing. I recently saw a documentary on TV showing the animals in a lab waiting to get tested and what they do to these animals is basically torture and the fact these creatures have to go through this for the sake of our vanity is truly sad.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me sick that animals for the sake of trying to find a cure, are breed with diseases and treated as if their life means nothing. I think we need to learn to treat animals more like equals instead of slaves we wish to use for our own selfish benefits.
Hi there, Thanks for your good comment! couldn't agree more it is a sick thing to do and unfair. like i have said they have no voice to speak out so we need to do it for them by stopping this.
ReplyDeleteIt is unfair on them like you said becuase it is just for the sake of our vanity. I don't think i could watch a tv doc would make me to sad! i mean my video that i have put on blog is just images and thats border line for me!!!
Kelsey :)
Hi, I have a different opinion here, you said that stop animal testing, on the other hand, if some scientific medical test needs a living creature to be an example, what should we take? Take human being as the experiment?
ReplyDeleteSometimes we have to compromise something for the purpose of the biggest interest for human being. Please try to imagin, if we take animal to do some test, once the test is successful, it will save more people in the world, therefore, it is still feasible. Is that right?
anyway, it is just my own thinking, but we should look things into half from both sides, I think.
Hi, you in titled to your opinon, but i can't stand animal testing... they take poor animals and put chemicals into their bodies and go through hell just for us?? if we want these products do it on us, like i said about how people donate organs when they pass that can be used for research. These animals have every right just as humans do..... have you seen the images and video it is horrific.. but likeive said we all have different opinons.... but thans for the comment.
ReplyDeleteHello-
ReplyDeleteHow poor..
I both agree and disagree in some points of this animal testing.I sure think testing on animals aren't very nice because they also are living creatures like us human. They have feelings and pain. But in fact with their sacrifice we gain beneficials in medical care. There always are merits and demerits in every substance.......
Hi there,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment, yes there is always are good side and bad side to situations. Yes we can have beneficals in medical care, but i still can't make my point clear enough about the organ donor idea..... i honestly think that is could work and would AT LEAST cut the animal testing percentage down.
Thanks again,
kelsey
I totally agree with you, and this is a good article, but i have one bit of advice: your data and stats do not support your argument very well at all. in some places it contradicts it like when u said only 1% of animals tested are dogs and cats. it degrades your point about the puppies at the end. i would choose your stats more carefully
